Have you ever heard of a baghouse? If not, you’re not alone – most people haven’t! However, baghouses are used by a lot of different types of businesses – mostly those that generate a lot of dust or other airborne pollutants. They’ve been in use for over 50 years to fight the potential of lung cancer or respiratory issues.

At its’ most basic description, a baghouse functions a lot like the filter system of your vacuum cleaner or air conditioner. The building’s ventilation system pushes all air from the building into a large, funnel-shaped hopper. The air is pushed through several filter bags that keep the particulates from passing through. The air is then pushed back into the building, clean and clear. Particulates are exhausted into the outside air. Like any filter system, the filter bags in a baghouse have to be cleaned and replaced, since they will wear out over time.
