Most people hate raking leaves. However, we still wind up doing it anyway. Besides the fact that having a lawn covered in dead leaves just looks ugly, many people feel that having a lot of leaves on the lawn will kill their grass entirely. While it’s true that an extreme amount of leaves can do that, in most cases, a moderate amount of leaf cover will not kill grass, and may even help to insulate it during the winter.
Even so, there are alternatives to leaf-raking that could save you time and energy. For example, using a leaf blower, using a bagging attachment on your lawnmower, or even mulching the leaves with the lawnmower can be very good alternatives. In fact, when mulched finely enough, some types of leaves have been found to release nitrogen into the soil, discouraging weed growth and encouraging a healthier lawn in the following spring.
