While we often spend a good amount of time praising the virtues of thermal imaging in connection with a professional home inspection, the fact remains that thermal imaging has its limitations. Thermal imaging is only as good as the interpretation of what the infrared camera shows you. For that, you need a professional. In some cases, it may be helpful to look at a thermal image side-by-side with a normal image.

Thermal imaging can help with a few basic things. It can tell you where parts of your home are warmer than they should be, it can tell you where things are colder than they should be, and they can tell you where things have moisture where they shouldn’t. As mentioned, though, pulling images straight out of an infrared camera may not do you much good. You’ll need the help of a trained professional to interpret what’s really going on in those images.
