In every house, there are a large number of different parts and elements that work together to contribute to the successful functioning of the building. Many of these parts go completely overlooked, and simply do their important work without anyone noticing them. One such part that is almost undoubtedly in your home is the mighty p-trap.
A p-trap is the connector between the vertical and horizontal pipes under your sink or toilet. The p-trap has a significant bend to it, forming the shape of the letter “P”. This device performs a few valuable functions. It prevents sewer gasses from entering your home through the drain of your sink. It prevents major clogs further along your plumbing system. And it allows you to retrieve items that were inadvertently dropped down the drain before they go too far into your pipes. It’s a good idea to disconnect the p-trap from time to time to clean it out.
