To avoid major issues or wasting energy or other resources, homeowners need to prepare their homes for the winter. Here are just a few things you may want to keep in mind.
Check out your HVAC system. It’s a lot better to find out you have problems with your heating system in the late fall than having the furnace die in the dead of winter. At the very least, this is a good time to clean filters, but it’s recommended to have a professional inspect the entire heating system.
Order fuel/wood. If your heating system uses oil, or you have a fireplace, it’s a good idea to get your restocking/refueling order in early, since prices or demand may rise as the temperature drops.
Check your trees. One of the last things you want in the middle of winter is a dead or damaged tree or tree limbs. They can do tremendous damage after a heavy snowfall.
