For most people in this country, summertime is synonymous with thoughts of the backyard, a cold beer, and a blazing grill. Some of the best meals you’ll ever eat come from the simple beauty of cooking over an open flame. Like most things, though, there are some things to watch out for if you want to enjoy your grill safely.
- Be sure that your grill is in an open area. The radiant heat and smoke from a grill can easily damage the siding on your home, or other nearby elements like stairways or railing. Ventilation is also very important to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
- If you’ve got a propane grill, you may want to inspect it for damaged hoses and broken or loose connections.
- Keep the grill clean between uses. Overly dirty cooking grates, heat plates, and grease trays can reduce the lifespan of your grill and cause dangerous fire flare-ups.
